The UK is Europe's premium pilot training market — and in 2026, it's also the most complex. Post-Brexit dual licensing, the L3Harris → Acron Aviation rebrand, Skyborne's aggressive expansion, and a 24,000-pilot global shortage have reshaped the landscape. Integrated ATPL costs £95,000–£115,000, but student loan access (via Skyborne and Leading Edge degree programs) and specialist financing from Futurity Finance have lowered the entry barrier. This guide covers every major UK school, updated pricing, the dual licence reality, and which airline pathways actually deliver jobs.

School Profiles
Skyborne Airline Academy — Largest UK Academy
Locations: Gloucestershire Airport (HQ), Bournemouth Airport (new 2025), Vero Beach FL (USA)
Skyborne has become the UK's dominant training provider after opening its second UK base — a 14,000 sq ft facility at Bournemouth for ATPL ground school and MEIR training. Integrated ATPL costs £114,950. The key differentiator: partnership with the University of West London for a BSc (Hons) degree alongside the ATPL, unlocking £40,000+ in UK student loans via SLC. Airline pathways include British Airways (Speedbird Academy), Ryanair, Jet2, easyJet, TUI, and Wizz Air.
CAE Oxford Aviation Academy — The Global Standard
Location: London Oxford Airport
60+ years, 30,000+ alumni. CAE remains the primary training partner for the Generation easyJet MPL program and maintains deep integration with British Airways.
Integrated ATPL at approximately £99,900, with total budget (accommodation, medicals, exams) reaching £110,000–£130,000. Massive global simulator network. Beyond cadet training, CAE handles type ratings for business jets (recently renewed contract with TAG Aviation for Global 7500 and Gulfstream G550).

Acron Aviation — Formerly L3Harris (Rebranded March 2025)
Locations: London/Gatwick, Cranfield University, Orlando FL (USA)
L3Harris Commercial Aviation Solutions officially relaunched as Acron Aviation in March 2025 (from Greek "Akron" — peak). Same world-class facilities, same global reach (UK, USA, Thailand, India). Offers Integrated and "Flying Start" ATPL programs at £95,000–£115,000. Premium segment with all-inclusive packages covering ground school and US-based flight training.
Leading Edge Aviation — Transparent Pricing, Dual Licence Specialists
Locations: London Oxford Airport (theory), Alhama, Murcia, Spain (flying)
The LEAP program: £114,950 single licence, £121,450 dual licence (UK CAA + EASA). With SLC tuition loan support, the effective cost drops to £95,880 / £102,380. "One price. No surprises" policy includes accommodation in Oxford and Spain plus a Training Guarantee (extra hours at no cost if needed). Split-base model means better flying weather in Spain while keeping UK theory standards.
Aeros Flight Training — Best Modular Option
Location: Gloucester (Staverton). The leading UK modular provider. Fastrack program at £59,954 — progress through PPL, ATPL theory, and commercial ratings at your own pace.
Full-time residential ATPL theory from £6,940, distance learning from £3,100. Ideal for career-changers or budget-conscious students who want to work during training.
Dual Licence Guide: UK CAA + EASA After Brexit
Since January 2023, UK and EASA licences are not mutually recognized. A UK CAA licence lets you fly G-registered aircraft only. An EASA licence covers EU-registered aircraft. Many airlines operate EU-registered fleets (Ryanair: Irish AOC, Wizz Air: Hungarian AOC) — even from UK bases.
Do You Need a Dual Licence?
"I only want to fly for BA or Jet2"
VerifiedUK CAA licence is sufficient. Both operate G-registered aircraft. Save the £5,000–£7,000 dual licence premium.
"I want to fly for Ryanair or Wizz Air"
VerifiedYou need an EASA licence — both airlines use EU-registered aircraft even at UK bases. Get the dual licence from the start.
"I can convert later if needed"
MisleadingPossible but painful. "Third Country" conversion requires sitting separate theory exams and a flight test. Much easier and cheaper to do dual training from day one.
"Dual licence means double the work"
NuancedIt means 26 theory exams instead of 13, two medicals, and often two skill tests. The flying training largely overlaps. Add ~£5,000–£7,000 and 2–3 months.

Integrated ATPL Cost — UK 2026 (£1 = €1.16)
CAE extras include accommodation, medicals, exam fees not in base tuition. Aeros total depends on hour-building route. GBP/EUR: 1.16 as of Feb 2026.

UK Airline Hiring 2026
The global pilot shortfall peaks at ~24,000 pilots in 2026. 80,000 airline pilots retiring over the next 20 years, global traffic doubling, 42,000 new aircraft on order. Every major UK carrier is hiring.
| Airline | 2026 Status | Captain Pay |
|---|---|---|
| easyJet | Extremely active — largest UK recruiter | Up to £191,000 |
| British Airways | Active — Speedbird Academy + direct FOs | £150,000+ |
| Ryanair UK | Steady — large-scale base recruitment | £145,000+ |
| Jet2 | Active — Flight Path cadet scheme | FO £63–81k |
| TUI UK | Selective — MPL cadet paused for 2026 | Demand met to 2028 |
The "Left-Hand Seat" Shortage
Airlines aren't just short on pilots — they're critically short on experienced Captains. This is driving rapid command upgrades for qualified First Officers. In 2026, some FOs are reaching the left seat in 4–6 years instead of the traditional 8–12. Early career entry = faster Captain progression.

Decision Guide
Choose Skyborne (£114,950) if: You want student loan access (£40k+ via BSc), the broadest airline network (BA, easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2, TUI, Wizz), and a degree as career insurance.
Choose Leading Edge (£114,950/£121,450) if: You want transparent all-inclusive pricing, the dual licence from day one, and prefer flying in Spanish weather while keeping UK theory standards.
Choose CAE Oxford (~£99,900) if: You're targeting easyJet (MPL pathway) or want the most globally recognized school name for Middle East/Asian carrier applications.
Choose Aeros modular (£59,954) if: Budget is priority, you want to work during training, or you're a career-changer who needs flexibility. Slower but £40–55k cheaper than integrated.
Choose Poland/Greece instead if: Saving £40–60k matters more than UK airline connections. The EASA licence is identical — airlines hire on skills, not school name.
