Jet2 is the UK's third-largest airline and the largest package holiday provider through Jet2holidays. Headquartered in Leeds Bradford, the airline operates a fleet of 138 aircraft in Summer 2026 — primarily Boeing 737-800 NG with Airbus A321neo deliveries underway (129 on order). Jet2 flies to 70+ sun, ski, and leisure city destinations across Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Canary Islands from 14 UK bases, including London Gatwick which launched in March 2026.
Jet2 employs over 2,000 pilots and recruits across all ranks — Second Officer, First Officer, Senior First Officer, and Captain — for both Airbus and Boeing fleets. The airline also runs Jet2FlightPath, a fully funded cadet programme launched in May 2025 that removes financial barriers to pilot training. The selection process emphasises the "Customer First" philosophy that defines Jet2's brand — technical competency matters, but cultural fit and customer focus are weighted equally. Here is what to expect at each stage.

Stage 1: Online Application & Screening
Applications are submitted through the Jet2 Careers portal. Jet2 recruits separately for Airbus pilots, Boeing pilots, and non-type-rated pilots, so candidates apply to the specific vacancy matching their background. The application requires personal details, education, experience, and a motivational question about why you want to join Jet2.
The motivational question is not a formality — Jet2 recruiters read every response. Focus on your competencies (drive, determination, teamwork), genuine enthusiasm for the Jet2 brand, and personal connection to the airline. If you grew up flying with Jet2 or it is your preferred leisure airline, say so. Authenticity matters more than polish.
If your application meets the criteria, you will receive a telephone screening call. This covers your experience, motivations, and working situation in more detail. The recruiter is assessing basic suitability and communication skills — be conversational, professional, and prepared to elaborate on anything in your application. Successful candidates are then invited to complete online psychometric tests.
"The application process is designed to be quick and easy — but don't treat the motivational question as throwaway. The Jet2 recruitment team reads these. Show your personality, mention why Jet2 specifically, and keep it genuine." — Jet2 Careers guidance, 2026
Stage 2: Psychometric Tests
Jet2 uses the Cut-E/AON psychometric testing platform — a series of timed online assessments that test pilot-specific cognitive abilities. The tests are game-like in format, each targeting different competencies: pattern extrapolation, multi-tasking, information processing speed, numerical reasoning, and perseverance.
Candidate reports from the Jet2FlightPath process describe four main modules: one testing pattern recognition (identifying visual rules), one testing multi-tasking (managing simultaneous demands), one testing speed and accuracy of information processing, and one testing perseverance (sustained performance under difficulty). Each module provides instant feedback across scored dimensions including "Understanding Others," "Respond to Change," "Identify Patterns," "Attend to Tasks," "Approach Challenges," and "Work with Numeric Concepts."
The tests are considered challenging — candidates report they are "very tough" and difficult to prepare for with conventional study methods. However, practice using pilot aptitude test platforms (particularly Cut-E/AON-specific preparation) is strongly recommended. The scoring uses scales (not simple pass/fail), and Jet2 evaluates the overall cognitive profile rather than individual module results. Candidates who prepare with practice software report significantly higher confidence.
"Very tough tests. Like mini-games — each testing different pilot competencies. Pattern recognition, multi-tasking, information processing, perseverance. I'm glad I paid for practice runs. The instant feedback gives you scores across six dimensions." — PPRuNe, Jet2FlightPath candidate, 2025
Stage 3: Assessment Day — Group Exercise & Interview
The assessment day takes place at Jet2 headquarters in Leeds. It begins with a presentation about Jet2 and Jet2holidays — the company culture, the "Customer First" philosophy, fleet plans, and what the pilot role involves day-to-day. Use this as an opportunity to absorb details you can reference later in your interview.
The group exercise follows — candidates work as a team on a scenario under time pressure, observed by Jet2 assessors. The exercise evaluates teamwork, active listening, constructive contribution, and the ability to reach a group decision efficiently. Jet2 specifically looks for employees who can work in diverse teams, so collaborative behavior and genuine engagement with other candidates are essential.
The individual interview uses the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) format to assess competencies, motivation, and company knowledge. Jet2 interview questions historically focus heavily on your knowledge of the company, your motivation to work for them, and examples demonstrating core competencies. Expect questions about the difference between Jet2 and Jet2holidays, your understanding of the "Customer First" brand, and how your personal values align with the airline's culture.
What the panel typically asks:
- Company knowledge: "What is the difference between Jet2 and Jet2holidays?" "What does 'Customer First' mean to you?" "Why do you want to join a leisure airline?"
- Motivational: "What motivates you about flying leisure routes?" "What attracts you to a mixed Boeing and Airbus fleet?" "Where do you see yourself in Jet2 in 5 years?"
- Behavioral/STAR: "Describe a time you went above and beyond for a customer." "Tell us about a situation where you had to work with a difficult colleague." "Give an example of when you followed SOPs despite pressure not to."
- Safety: "What would you do if the Captain was not following SOPs?" "How do you prioritise safety versus schedule?" "Describe your approach to threat and error management."
"Throughout the assessment you need to demonstrate your knowledge and passion for Jet2 and Jet2holidays. Know the difference between the two, know the fleet, know the bases, know why you want to be there. Generic answers about 'loving aviation' won't cut it." — AirlinePrep, Jet2 assessment preparation guidance

The simulator assessment is typically conducted as part of the assessment day or scheduled separately. Jet2 operates B737-800 and A321neo aircraft, so the simulator type depends on your application route. The sim evaluates handling skills, SOP adherence, instrument approaches, engine failures, go-arounds, and crew coordination.
As with other UK carriers, the assessor is a Jet2 training captain who occupies the other seat. The focus is on safe, methodical flying — standard callouts, checklist discipline, good CRM communication, and the ability to manage workload under increasing pressure. The sim is not about showing aggressive handling or exceptional precision — it is about demonstrating that you can operate safely and professionally within Jet2's standard operating environment.
For the Jet2FlightPath cadet programme, there is no simulator assessment — cadets are assessed through cognitive tests, video interview, and the in-person assessment day. The sim is reserved for direct-entry pilots who already hold a type rating or significant multi-crew experience.
"Standard sim profile — departure, ILS, engine failure, go-around. The training captain was professional and put me at ease. Brief properly, fly the procedure, make your calls. Jet2 wants to see you can operate safely in their environment." — Pilot community report, Jet2 sim assessment, 2025
Stage 5: Medical & Final Checks
After a successful assessment day, Jet2 issues a conditional offer subject to a current UK CAA Class 1 aero-medical examination, reference checks, background verification, and document confirmation. Base allocation is communicated with the offer — Jet2 operates from 14 UK bases, and placement depends on fleet demand, your preferences, and operational needs.
Start dates depend on type rating availability (for non-type-rated Second Officers), fleet induction scheduling, and seasonal demand. Jet2 operates a leisure-focused schedule with significant peak summer demand, so many start dates align with the ramp-up into the summer season.
Jet2FlightPath — Fully Funded Cadet Programme
Jet2FlightPath launched in May 2025 as a fully funded pilot training programme designed to remove financial barriers to the profession. Approximately 60 places are offered per intake, with training conducted over 18 months at partner schools: Skyborne Airline Academy, Leading Edge, and FTE Jerez (UK, Florida, and Spain locations). No previous flying experience is required.
The selection process for Jet2FlightPath is distinct from direct entry and includes: an interactive Discovery360 quiz (not assessed), an online application with a 500-word motivational question (3,000 characters), cognitive aptitude tests (Cut-E/AON platform), a one-way video interview (HireVue platform), and a final in-person assessment day with group and individual activities.
Eligibility requirements include minimum five GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher (including Maths and a Science), UK work eligibility, age 17+ at application (18 by training start), and no CAA ATPL exam attempts in the previous 19 months. Candidates taller than 1.91m can apply but must pass a functionality check.
Upon completing the ATPL course, graduates receive type rating training on either Airbus or Boeing aircraft before joining Jet2 as Second Officers. The programme includes a 20-week induction at Jet2's Leeds headquarters and one of its UK bases, with exposure to customer-facing roles including Cabin Crew and Ground Operations. The inaugural cohort began training in late 2025, with course starts continuing through 2026.
"Becoming a commercial airline pilot feels like a dream I never let myself have. Jet2FlightPath has made this career accessible to me — the financial requirements of training were always the biggest barrier, so this funded pathway has removed that worry completely." — Jet2 press release, Jet2FlightPath trainee, February 2026
Jet2 Pilot Assessment Preparation — Sample Questions
Preparing for the Jet2 pilot assessment? Below are three questions from our Jet2 question bank with the coaching frameworks that candidates use to prepare. The first shows the complete answer — all paragraphs, tips, and airline-specific context. Each of the 191 questions in the full pack averages 600 words of structured coaching per answer.
What is the difference between Jet2 and Jet2holidays?
The Airline: Jet2.com — Explain that Jet2.com is the airline division of Jet2 plc, operating scheduled leisure flights from 14 UK bases to approximately 80 destinations across 24-25 countries. In FY2025, Jet2.com carried 6.62 million flight-only passengers — people who book seats independently without a package holiday. The airline operates a mixed fleet of approximately 135 aircraft: around 88-93 Boeing 737-800s, a rapidly growing fleet of 24-28 Airbus A321neos, seven legacy Boeing 737-300s, approximately three leased Airbus A321ceos, and two Airbus A330-200s wet-leased from AirTanker for summer peak capacity. Jet2.com's brand promise is 'Friendly Low Fares' — positioning it as a leisure carrier that competes on both price and customer experience, differentiating from ultra-low-cost carriers like Ryanair and Wizz Air that maximise ancillary revenue at the expense of service.
The Tour Operator: Jet2holidays — Explain that Jet2holidays is the UK's largest ATOL-licensed tour operator, surpassing TUI in February 2023 and now holding a licence covering over 7 million passengers. In FY2025, Jet2holidays served 6.58 million package holiday customers. Package holidays account for over 80% of group revenue despite splitting roughly evenly with flight-only on passenger numbers — this is because packages include accommodation, transfers, resort teams, and the higher-margin services that drive profitability.
Sub-brands include Jet2CityBreaks for short urban getaways, Jet2Villas for self-catering accommodation, Indulgent Escapes for premium holidays, and VIBE by Jet2holidays for younger travellers. The ATOL protection means all package customers have financial protection if the company were to fail — a critical selling point in the UK market since the collapse of Thomas Cook in 2019.
The Integrated Model — Describe how the two divisions work together as a vertically integrated leisure travel business. Unlike Ryanair or easyJet, where flights are the core product and holidays are bolt-on partnerships, Jet2's model is built around the package holiday as the primary revenue driver. The airline essentially exists to serve the tour operator — route planning, scheduling, and base selection are driven by holiday demand rather than pure point-to-point traffic economics.
This integration gives Jet2 significant competitive advantages: control over the entire customer experience from booking to resort, higher per-passenger revenue than standalone airlines, greater customer loyalty (61% repeat booking rate), and resilience against the unbundling that has commoditised air travel elsewhere. CEO Steve Heapy has described easyJet holidays as modelling itself on Jet2's blueprint — a recognition that the integrated approach works.
Why This Matters for Pilots — Connect the business structure to the flight deck. As a Jet2 pilot, you are not just operating a transport service — you are the first touchpoint of a holiday experience for millions of customers. Jet2 explicitly assesses customer service orientation during the Stage 3 interview, and the company's consistent awards (Which? Recommended Provider for 11 years, Feefo Exceptional Service Award 2025) reflect a culture where every employee, including flight crew, is expected to contribute to the customer experience. Operationally, the package model means routes are leisure-focused — Mediterranean, Canary Islands, European city breaks — with strong summer peaks and quieter winters, resulting in roster patterns that can be intense in summer (some pilots report approaching 100 hours per month) but significantly lighter in winter with many standby duties.
Tip: Key numbers to remember: Jet2holidays passed TUI in February 2023, ATOL licence covers 7 million+ passengers, 80% of revenue from packages, 61% repeat booking rate. Show you understand the business model drives the flying operation — this demonstrates commercial awareness the panel values.

In the VASIS, how many light units are in each wing bar?
Correct Answer — Two or Three Light Units Per Wing Bar — In a standard VASIS (Visual Approach Slope Indicator System), each wing bar contains either two or three light units. The standard 2-bar VASIS has two wing bars (near and far) on each side of the runway, with each wing bar containing two or three multi-lamp units. When on the correct glideslope, the near bars appear white and the far bars appear red. Above glideslope, all bars appear white; below, all appear red. VASIS Variants and PAPI Comparison — Demonstrate knowledge of different visual glide slope systems. The 3-bar VASIS adds a third (middle) bar for wide-body aircraft with higher eye-to-wheel height. However, VASIS has been largely superseded by PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator), which uses a single row of four sharp-transition light units on one side. PAPI provides more precise information: four white = too high, three white/one red = slightly high, two white/two red = on glideslope, one white/three red = slightly low, four red = dangerously low. Most modern airports, including Jet2’s UK bases, use PAPI.

What would you do if the Captain was not following SOPs?
I Would Assess the Severity First — If the captain is not following SOPs, my response depends on the nature and severity of the deviation. A minor variation in briefing technique is different from omitting a critical checklist. My first step is to classify it: is this a preference within SOP tolerances, a non-standard practice that is not immediately unsafe, or a genuine safety deviation? For a genuine safety issue — such as skipping a checklist, descending below minimums, or ignoring a caution — I would intervene immediately: "Captain, I noticed we haven't run the approach checklist. Can we complete it now?" If dismissed, I would escalate clearly: "I am not comfortable continuing without the checklist."

What Successful Candidates Say
Based on candidate reports from PPRuNe, AirlinePrep, AviationInsider, and Jet2 Careers guidance:
Know the Jet2 brand inside out. The single most common piece of advice from successful candidates: know the difference between Jet2 and Jet2holidays, understand the "Customer First" philosophy, know the bases, know the fleet transition from 737 to A321neo, and be able to articulate why you want to work for a leisure carrier specifically. The interview panel assesses brand alignment as seriously as flying competency. If you can't explain what makes Jet2 different from easyJet or Ryanair, you will struggle.
The psychometric tests require practice, not study. The Cut-E/AON tests are cognitively demanding and game-like in format. Traditional ATPL revision will not help. Practice with pilot aptitude test software — specifically Cut-E preparation platforms — to build speed, accuracy, and familiarity with the test mechanics. Candidates who prepare report significantly better results and higher confidence. The tests provide instant feedback across dimensions, so you will know where you stand.
Leisure flying is a feature, not a compromise. Some candidates make the mistake of treating Jet2 as a stepping stone to a "real" airline. The panel can detect this immediately. Jet2 is the UK's third-largest airline with 138 aircraft, 14 bases, and a strong growth trajectory. If you genuinely enjoy the idea of flying families to their holidays, operating from regional UK bases, and being part of a company that values customer happiness — say so. If you're just applying because you need a job, Jet2 is not the right fit and the interview will reveal it.
STAR format is non-negotiable. Every behavioral question should be answered in STAR format — Situation, Task, Action, Result. The assessors are trained to evaluate structured responses. Prepare 5–6 strong examples covering customer service, teamwork, SOP adherence, conflict resolution, and going above expectations. Each story needs specific details — dates, locations, outcomes — not vague generalities.
"Jet2 interview questions have always been focused on your knowledge of the company, motivation to work for them, and examples demonstrating your core competencies. Know Jet2, know why you want to be there, and have real stories ready." — AirlinePrep, Jet2 interview preparation guidance
