Aegean Airlines is Greece's flag carrier, operating Airbus A320 family aircraft to over 150 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Together with its regional subsidiary Olympic Air (ATR 42/72 turboprops), Aegean dominates Greek domestic and island routes. The airline has invested over €15 million in its Pilot Scholarship Programme since 2018, training more than 180 pilots — 90 of whom are already flying as captains.
Aegean's selection prioritises professionalism, safety culture, and customer focus. The airline opened a dedicated AEGEAN|CAE Flight Training Center at its new technical base, where scholarship graduates and direct entry pilots complete their type rating training. For the full assessment process, see the Aegean interview guide.

What Aegean Looks For
Aegean evaluates candidates against four core qualities: flying skills, professionalism, integrity, and customer focus. The airline also emphasises team-player attitude, situational awareness, and decisive thinking. As the flag carrier of a tourism-dependent country, Aegean expects pilots who understand the critical role aviation plays in connecting Greek islands and seasonal tourism flows.
Key items to highlight
- EASA ATPL with Class 1 Medical
- A320 family or ATR 42/72 type rating (fleet-specific)
- Minimum 500 hours on type for direct entry FO positions
- ICAO English Level 4 minimum
- Multi-crew experience in commercial operations
- Greek language ability (strong advantage, especially for Olympic Air island routes)
Scholarship vs Direct Entry
Scholarship Programme (Greek/Cypriot Only)
Up to 40 candidates per year, 120 total over the 2026-2028 cycle. Full integrated CPL training at Global Aviation Academy (Athens) or Egnatia Aviation Academy (Kavala), followed by type rating at the AEGEAN|CAE Flight Training Center. Total training cost exceeds €90,000 — subsidised by Aegean.
Requirements: Greek or Cypriot nationality, male candidates must have fulfilled military obligations. CV focus: education, motivation for aviation, leadership examples, and alignment with Aegean's values.
Direct Entry (Type-Rated)
Open to all nationalities. Apply through jobs.aegeanair.com for A320 or ATR 42/72 type-rated positions. Non-type-rated pilots can also apply — Aegean offers type rating through its training centre for selected candidates.
CV focus: total hours with PIC/SIC breakdown, current type rating and recency, commercial multi-crew experience, ICAO English level, and evidence of safety culture and CRM competence.
Aegean vs Olympic Air
Olympic Air operates ATR 42/72 turboprops on domestic routes connecting Athens to Greek islands and smaller mainland cities. It functions as a separate brand under Aegean's ownership. Pilot recruitment covers both carriers — you apply for either A320 (Aegean mainline) or ATR (Olympic Air) positions.
For pilots with turboprop experience, Olympic Air is a realistic entry point into the Aegean group. ATR pilots can eventually transition to the A320 mainline fleet. If you have both turboprop and jet experience, state clearly which fleet you are applying for and why. Applying for "either" without preference suggests lack of research.
CV Format & Structure
Apply through jobs.aegeanair.com. Upload a single-column PDF, 2 pages maximum. Lead with Professional Summary, then Licenses & Ratings, Flight Experience (hours table), Employment History, Education, and Language Skills.
Include a text-based hours summary: "Total: X,XXX · PIC: X,XXX · A320: X,XXX · Multi-Engine: X,XXX." If you have Greek language skills, list them prominently — even basic conversational Greek demonstrates commitment to working in an Athens-based operation. State your ICAO English level explicitly.
Photo Policy
Most European airlines do not require a photo on your CV, and including one can trigger unconscious bias concerns in some HR departments. Do not add a photo unless the airline specifically requests one on their careers page.
Submit as PDF
Always submit your CV as a PDF unless the airline specifically requests Word format. ATS systems can strip formatting from .docx files — tables, columns, and custom fonts often render as garbled text. Use a single-column layout with standard section headings.
Aegean-Specific Mistakes
Applying for the Scholarship as a non-Greek/Cypriot national — the programme is restricted to Greek and Cypriot citizens. Non-nationals should apply through the direct entry pathway.
Confusing Aegean and Olympic Air requirements — Aegean flies A320; Olympic Air flies ATR 42/72. Applying for an A320 position with only turboprop experience (or vice versa) without acknowledging the fleet difference shows carelessness.
No mention of Greek aviation context — Aegean operates a network connecting islands and seasonal tourism routes. Understanding this operational context (short sectors, high-frequency island hopping, seasonal traffic surges) should be reflected in your experience framing.
Missing military service status (Greek males) — if you are a Greek male applying for the Scholarship, your military obligations must be fulfilled. Omitting this information delays your application.
